Choose Your Hard

Updated: Feb 17, 2021

Why is it so hard to do the things that are the most important for us - the things that matter the most?

Maybe it's because we need to want it more than anything else and sometimes wanting something important over wanting something comfortable and easy can be tricky. It's easy to lose sight of that in this busy world. So, let's take a look at this in a different way...

It's so hard to have responsibilities of a job, family, home.

It's so hard to eat right, plan meals and drink lots of water.

It's so hard to find motivation to move our bodies with exercise and so easy to stay home.

It's so hard to be still and meditate or pray.

Life can be so hard.

But....

Not having the responsibilities of a job means we are unemployed. Not being responsible for family means we neglect and hurt those we love. Not having responsibilities of a home means we are homeless. That's hard.

When we don't eat good, nutritious food, plan our meals or drink lots of water, we can get sick, get depressed and lose energy. That's hard.

When we don't move our bodies, they atrophy and we get weak and tired. It's true - if you don't use it, you lose it. That's hard.

When we aren't still and take time for our mental and spiritual health, we become scattered, stressed and anxious. That's hard.

Life is hard. But you get to choose your "hard". Choose wisely, friends!

One thing I've noticed is that when we choose things that are "instant" gratification rather than long term gratification, we tend to choose poorly. Think about it: "I don't feel like going to workout right now because I'm tired" can seem like a great choice in the moment. But going to workout in spite of that can actually bring long-term results that help you get stronger, more confident and actually give you more energy! I rarely leave a workout thinking, "I wish I had stayed home on the couch." (smile)

Sometimes a shift in perspective can change everything. Yes, it's clear to all of us that some days are just downright hard. But when we press through the hard, find balance in our responsibilities and reap the benefits of our commitments, life can also be downright beautiful.

You can do hard things!

If you are in need of encouragement and motivation in your "hard", we are here for you! Come see us soon. We can't wait to move with you!
